Saleem Ahmed (born 1 January 1964) is an Indian politician representing Indian National Congress from Bangalore, Karnataka.
He was former Director General Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India 2012-2014 and was the youngest in the house of elder’s and served as Govt Chief Whip of Karnataka Legislative council from 2000-2007. Twice he was the Member Legislative council during 1996- 2002 and 2002 – 2008. He was also the special representative Govt of Karnataka at New Delhi – 2017 -2018
In the party he held the position as President, All India National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) 1993-1997, General Secretary Indian Youth Congress 1997-1998, President Karnataka State – NSUI 1987-1993,Vice President, Karnataka State – NSUI 1983-1987 and Elected Student Union Leader Seshadripuram College, Bangalore 1982-1986.

Saleem Ahmed started his career as NSUI activist in 1981 as College NSUI Unit President.
Saleem Ahmed was a College NSUI Unit President, Block President, Secretary in Bangalore city NSUI, State Vice President Karnataka NSUI, & State President Karnataka NSUI and was All India NSUI President and General Secretary Indian Youth Congress. He was Government Chief Whip – Legislative Council Karnataka & Director General, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Saleem Ahmed has been working for the Congress Party from the last 35 years holding different positions in the party.
Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI)
As a leader of NSUI and Youth Congress he took number of issues pertaining to youth and students. He traveled across the country to strengthen issues pertaining to youths and students and also involve them to be part of nation building process, highlighting the vision of the Congress party and also role of Congress in the Freedom movement and the sacrifice of life’s of our great leaders like Smt. Indira Gandhi & Rajiv Gandhi. He has been propagating the vision of Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who gave the voting right to youth from 21 years to 18 years.
He has been high lighting the achievements by the UPA Government under the leadership of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and also the vision of Rahul Gandhi to empower youths in nation building. In his tenure of public life he has been taking work of social reforms such as Anti Dowry program, tree plantations, health and blood donation camps and other social activities.
Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS)
Saleem Ahmed developed a National network during his tenure as Director General at NYKS.He exploited every opportunity he could use to bring on development both in rural level and sub- urban level. He emphasized that the only way to develop India and to increase its prosperity is to drive rural youth clubs and involve them in nation building activities.
Saleem Ahmed developed innovative strategies to induce values and develop skills among the Indian youth to become productive, responsible citizens of a modern, secular and technological India resulting in employment generation. He united the voice of Youth clubs and Mahila Mandals by organizing youth programs and turned it into community Based organizations having their own neighborly network.
He ensured to foresee his plans to gain importance in competency development, awareness, knowledge, dissemination and job orientation of the youth is paramount today in the face of the change and growth.
- Saleem Ahmed was the leader of the Indian delegation to South Korea for the Youth Exchange Program in the year 2012
- He was the Deputy Leader in a study Tour of a Team of Legislators to The People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Singapore to study the system and functioning of People’s Congress and their Government in the year 2005.
- He was an Indian delegate to the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) in a Political Study Mission held at U.S.A. In the year 2001.
- He participated as an Indian delegate to the world Kannada Conference held at Detroit in U.S.A. in the year 2002.
- He participated as an Indian delegate to the International Youth Conference held in Korea in the year 1989
- He participated in Indian delegation to the International Youth Conference held at Moscow in the year 1984.
